WARNING: Facebook “Like” Worm Spreading Through Javascript Exploit

Alert!
A new worm virus popped up on Facebook. This time, it’s the “Like Button Worm” that has been finding its way through various accounts on Facebook.

If you clicked on it and followed through, it is likely that you are now aware that you fell for to the scam. It’s the latest in a long line of “clickjacking” efforts by scammers on the Internet. Thousands of facebook users got attacked with this virus till now.
Its only about a week after the social netorking site orkut has been attacked with ‘bomb sabado’ virus, the scammers have discovered a way to use the popular “Like” button as a way to perpetrate the worm in connection with Javascript.
How this latest worm works is the link is spread through Facebook with the not so unusual sensationalism that is typically used to garner user attention. In this instance the link’s text says “Shocking! This girl killed herself after her dad posted this photo”. This message is accompanied by another message that states “What are you still doing here? You should be on the photo tab. You can click here to visit there now” and then offers the link to visit the photo tab page.
After the user clicks the ‘shocking’ link, next another page opens and once the member arrives on this page the exploit forces the Facebook member to “Like” the useless page, and then subsequently the worm adds the link on the user’s Facebook wall.
At this point all their connections see the link and, for those who cannot resist the temptation to click, it has now become a rinse, lather, repeat cycle where the worm propagates through the network. As long as the link is not clicked, the worm should not spread, however with these kinds of sensational titles, unfortunately users are often inclined to click out of curiosity.
