CUSAT announces new course in seafood safety

KOCHI: Cochin University of Science and Technology ( CUSAT ) on Friday announced its new MFSc programme in seafood safety and trade. The course is sanctioned recently by the UGC, under its innovative programme – Technology and Research in Interdisciplinary and Emerging Areas. The course will commence from September 2012.

The two- year programme is interdisciplinary in nature and is designed to mold professionals of the topmost order capable of tackling the challenges faced by the flourishing seafood industry. The course aims at developing manpower specialized in managerial skills demanded by the trade and seafood industry and to extend state of the art research opportunities in emerging vistas related to seafood trade, seafood quality assurance and international trade.

Once qualified, an individual can take up entry level positions in seafood production, sales, marketing, quality assurance, food safety, total quality management, import and export.
