CUSAT seeks legal opinion in professor termination matter

B Madhusoodana KurupKOCHI: After the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) syndicate decided to initiate process to terminate the services of professor B Madhusoodana Kurup, the university has referred the matter for legal opinion.

Kurup is presently on deputation as vice-chancellor of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (KUFOS) and is alleged to have committed financial misappropriations at CUSAT.

“We are looking into the legal aspect before issuing termination notice to Kurup”, said CUSAT registrar Dr A Ramachandran.

The decision was taken after the syndicate’s standing committee presented its report before the syndicate in its 585th meeting. The syndicate had decided to issue notice to Kurup asking him why they shouldn’t start his termination process.

Kurup has denied allegations of financial misappropriations calling them false and untrue. He has said that there were no financial liabilities for him at CUSATt as all the documents had been submitted and the university auditors had accepted the financial statements.
