KOCHI: Cochin University of Science and Technology signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Centre for Bio-Polymer Science and Technology (CBPST), a unit of Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET) that is under the ministry of chemicals and fertilizers, for academic cooperation on Friday.
The MoU was signed at Cusat. The main objective of the MoU is to offer specialized academic programmes, mainly MSc, MTech and PhD in biopolymer science and technology from this academic year, to take joint research and development activities in the field of biopolymers and natural fibres and related areas of mutual interest and to motivate young scientists to undertake research in the field of biopolymer science and technology.
The decision to sign MoU was taken after the CIPET director on May 11, 2012, sent a detailed proposal with curriculum for introduction of academic programmes in collaboration with Cusat at CBPST. This was placed before the Cusat syndicate, which approved the proposal.
