Cochin university to start three new courses

KOCHI: Syndicate of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), which met here on Thursday has decided to start three new courses – a masters in library and information sciences and PG diplomas in android application development and management consultancy.
Cusat sources said the decision to start a master’s course in library and information sciences would pave way for the creation of a new department.

“We want to start the course by next academic year but there are several modalities to be completed. Forming a separate department would take time,” said Cusat acting vice-chancellor R Sasidharan. The syndicate also decided to implement e-governance system for the university within March 31, 2019.

Vinod Kumar C P of the computer sciences division under School of Engineering has been appointed as head of entrance examinations.

The syndicate also decided to empower Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) governing council of the university to take steps needed for speedy implementation of projects utilizing Rs 50 crore fund allocated by ministry of human resource development.

While Rs 35 crore would be used for research projects, the rest would be used for setting up a training and entrepreneurship development hub. The syndicate has also decided to impose Rs 5 lakh fine on NRM School of Architecture, affiliated to the varsity, for a mass copying incident that happened in the institute.
