COUNSELLING FOR B TECH/5 YR INTEGRATED MSC PHOTONICS

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

1 All candidates who wish to join the various B Tech programmes as well as 5 year integrated
M Sc in Photonics should invariably attend the Centralized Counselling for admission to the
respective programmes as per the counseling schedule published in the web site
www.cusat.nic.in and in www.cusat.ac.in.
2 Individual call letter will not be sent to the candidates. Candidates are advised to attend the
counselling as per the schedule published in the web site. Candidates who do not report for
counseling on the scheduled date and time at the counseling venue will not be considered
for allotment/admission. Requests for change of dates will not be considered under any
circumstances.
3 Candidates seeking admission to the Academic Programmes of the University are advised
to be conversant with the various instructions, procedures, rules etc. detailed in the CAT
notification and Key Information published in the website www.cusat.nic.in.
4 Only candidates who have registered their options online will be considered for
allotment/admission as per the counseling schedule.
5 Only candidates who fulfill the minimum requirements as per the eligibility criteria
prescribed by the University will be considered for provisional admission. See CAT 2010
prospectus for more details on eligibility criteria of various courses.
6 Candidates should report for counseling on the date and time allotted to them as per the
counseling schedule. Requests for change of counseling dates will not be considered
under any circumstances.
7 As soon as a candidate is allotted to a particular branch against a particular option, all his
lower options will be automatically cancelled. However, he/she shall be eligible for automatic
updation to his/her higher options unless he/she cancels all his/her higher options in full in
writing.
8 Cancellation of Higher options: Candidates who are satisfied themselves with their status
of being admitted in a particular branch shall have the liberty to cancel all their higher
options in full. Partial cancellation of options is not permitted.
9 Once allotted to a particular branch, the candidate should confirm his/her admission in that
branch by submitting all the required documents in original and by remitting the required
fees on the same day, failing which his/her allotment will be cancelled without any
intimation.
10 Candidates who do not confirm their admission by remitting the required fee in full on the
same day of allotment will not be considered for any further updations based on his/her
higher options, if any.
Cancellation of admission, for whatever reasons, will result in forfeiture of all options
exercised, if any, by the candidate. 11 Candidates admitted or transferred to any particular branch by virtue of the online options
exercised by him/her shall have to accept such admission/ transfer failing which no claim of
the candidate will stand for any further admission/updation. Once admitted, all the lower
options submitted by the candidate will get cancelled automatically. However he/she will be
permitted to cancel his/her remaining higher options (if any) within five days of being
admitted/updated. Requests for partial cancellation of higher options will not be
entertained.
12 Candidates having “Kerallite” status only are eligible for free seats (ie concessional rate of
fees) in the School of Engineering (Thrikkakkara campus), Kunjali Marakkar School of
Marine Engineering (Thrikkakkara campus) and in Cochin University College of Engineering
Kuttanadu (Pulincunnoo campus). Others are not eligible for free seats.
13 A candidate will be considered as a ‘Keralite’ for the limited purpose of eligibility for
admission, if
 He/She or his/her father/mother was born in Kerala OR
 He/She has been a resident of Kerala for a period of 5 years within a period of 12
years OR
 He/She has undergone his/her school studies from standards VIII to XII in
educational institutions(s) in Kerala.
 Children of All India Service (AIS) officers (Non Keralites) allotted to Kerala circle
are deemed to be “Keralites’ (GO (Rt) No. 822/H.Edn dated 29/05/2008). But they
will not be eligible for Communal/Special Reservations.
14 Candidates claiming the Keralite status should invariably produce at the time of
counseling/ admission, any one of the following certificates.
 The certificate of Birth / Residence of the candidate or his/her father or
mother from the Village Officer / Tahsildar or from a competent authority of
local body,
OR
 The ‘Certificate showing school studies in Kerala from Standards VIII to XII’
from the Head of School where the candidate completed his / her study in
Standard XII, OR
 True copy of the relevant page of the SSLC of the candidate’s father /
mother showing the place of birth in Kerala with corroborative evidence
showing the relationship between the candidate and the parent, OR
 True copy of the relevant page of the passport of the candidate or either of
parents issued by the Government of India showing place of birth in Kerala
with corroborative evidence showing the relationship between the parent and
candidate, OR
 True copy of birth certificate of candidate or his / her, father / mother showing
the place of birth in Kerala with corroborative evidence showing the
relationship between the candidate and father / mother of whose
birth
certificate is being produced For claiming Keralite-AIS (All India Service), certificate from competent authority should
be attached.
15. POINTS TO BE NOTED WHILE REPORTING FOR COUNSELING/ADMISSION
All candidates should –
report for counseling/Admission in person either with the Parent or Guardian at the
scheduled time.
register themselves for counseling/admission at the counsellig venue on the date and
time allotted to them.
fulfill the minimum requirement as per the eligibility criteria implemented in the
University at the time of counseling/admission.
remit the required fees in full on the date of Admission. Part-payment of fees or
postponement of date of payment will not be allowed under any circumstances.
produce the following certificates/documents in original at the time admission.
CAT – 2010 e-Admit Card.
 S.S.L.C/10th Mark list & pass certificate (CBSE, ICSE etc.).
 Plus 2 Mark lists / and pass certificate (CBSE, ICSE etc.).
 Transfer Certificate from the Institution last attended (in English version)
 Conduct/Character Certificate from the Institution last attended (in English
version)
 Two passport size Photographs of the candidate
 Community Certificate and Annual family Income Certificate issued by the
Village Officer concerned for ‘SEBC’ candidates belonging to the state of
Kerala and by the Tahsildar concerned for KSC/KST candidates belonging to
State of Kerala for claiming admission under respective “Reservation”
category. Candidates belonging to states other than Kerala are not eligible for
communal reservation.
 Candidates who claim OEC status for fee concession shall obtain the same
endorsed in their community certificate compulsorily.
 Candidates seeking admission under physically handicapped (PHC) category
should invariably produce the Physically Handicapped certificate issued after
26.06.2009 by the District Medical Board of the State to which the candidate
belongs.
 Candidates seeking admission under sports quota should bring all original
certificates of their achievements in the respective sports events and the
sports eligibility certificate issued by Kerala State Sports Council.
 If any of the above certificates are not in English/Malayalam, Candidates
should invariably produce a translated version of the same in English
endorsed by a Notary Public.
 Two sets of attested copies of all the original certificates/documents
mentioned above.
16. Failure to present themselves at the appointed time for the admission process will
result in immediate and summary forfeiture of all claims for admissions and
removal from the list of eligible candidates.
17. Non-production of Community and Annual Family Income Certificates in original at the
time of Counselling/Admission will result in disqualification of the candidate from seeking
admission under the respective “communal reservation” category. Attested copies of
community Certificate and income Certificate will not be accepted.
18. Rules and regulations on Kerala State Communal Reservation and Special Reservation
adopted by the University from time to time will be applicable for admission to the
various academic programmes.
19. The University reserves the right to add, delete or amend any of the stipulations
regarding the reservation criteria, eligibility, intake, specialization, type of programmes,
rules, regulations, fee structure etc. at any time and these will be applicable to the
candidates seeking admission.
20. Claims/Requests for benefits under any reservations (Communal Reservation/
Special Reservation etc.) other than what is indicated by the candidate in the CAT
2010 application, will not be considered for counseling/admission.
21. All Certificates/Documents submitted by admitted candidates will be kept under the
custody of the university till the completion of Qualification Certificate verification and will
not be returned to the candidate except in the case of cancellation of admission.
22. UNAUTHORIZED ABSENCE AND CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION
Continuous, unauthorized absence of Candidates admitted to any programme of study
for the first 15 working days after the commencement of classes will result in the
cancellation of their admission, without any notice, and such vacancies will be filled by
admitting other eligible candidates.
23. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR B.TECH MARINE ENGINEERING
Medical Fitness: Candidates opting B.Tech. Marine Engineering programme should
produce a medical certificate from a Doctor approved by Director General of shipping,
Mumbai. The list of Doctors approved by Director General of shipping, Mumbai is
available on the website www.dgshipping.com in the Shipping Notices – MS Notice
No.2 of 2007
24. FEE TO BE PAID AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION
The FEES payable for the FIRST YEAR at the time of admission to the various First
degree programmes in Engineering and Technology are indicated below:
Fee can be remitted either in cash at the bank counter provided at the counseling
venue or as Demand Draft obtained from any Nationalized / Scheduled banks, in
favour of The Registrar, CUSAT payable at Ernakulam.

25. UNIFORM FEE:
Admitted students should purchase uniform materials from the Cochin University
Employees’ Sahakarana Sangham counter at the counseling venue on payment of Rs
1000/-(Rupees One Thousand Only) in cash
26. Candidates belonging to Kerala Scheduled Caste (KSC)/Kerala Scheduled Tribe
(KST) and Other Eligibile Communities(OEC) need to pay only the fees applicable to
them as shown in Table given below. They need not pay any additional fees even if they
get admission in payment category seats.
27. FEE CONCESSIONS
1. Candidates seeking fee concession under KPCR has to remit the full fees at the time
of counselling. The fees so collected will be refunded to the candidates to the extent
reimbursed by the government, as and when necessary grants are received.
2. KSC/KST candidates belonging to the state of Kerala shall pay fee items not
reimbursable by the Government of Kerala. They have to pay the caution deposit
amount also which is refundable after completion of the course.
3. OEC Candidates are eligible for fee concession as applicable to SC/ST Candidates.
28. REFUND OF FEES
As per UGC /AICTE guidelines as approved by the University from time to time.
