Cochin Shipyard, CUSAT sign pact for cooperation in academic, industrial relations

Cochin Shipyard Ltd and Cusat have signed an agreement for cooperation in academic and industrial relations for their mutual benefit. The MoU was signed by CUSAT vice-chancellor J Latha and Cochin Shipyard CMD Madhu S Nair the other day.

As per the agreement, students of Cusat could undertake industrial training/industry visits at the public sector body. The pact will allow research and development activities and collaborative research projects.

The exchange of scientific materials and information of common interest including data, study reports, books, publications, course information etc., which are not confidential in nature also comes within the purview of the agreement. Similarly, the MoU allows consultancy by Cusat faculty to the Shipyard in relevant areas of specialisation.

The agreement comes as a boon for the students of Department of Ship Technology and Kunjali Marakkar School of Marine Engineering. For the Department of Ship Technology, there will be regular vacation training lasting four weeks during May-June semester vacation of every year for 40 students of fourth and sixth semesters of BTech Naval Architecture & Shipbuilding.

Further, a one-day industrial visit for second-semester students of BTech Naval Architecture & Shipbuilding in various departments of Cochin Shipyard to acquire an overall awareness of shipbuilding activities and for fifth-semester students for electrical systems in mutually agreed batches and dates are allowed under the pact.
