Upgradation will lose the Status – Baby

CUSAT if upgarded to IIEST will lose its present status: Baby

Thiruvanathapuram, Nov 25 : Kerala Education Minister M A Baby today said the government had not favoured the Centre’s proposal for upgrading the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) to an Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) as it only meant downgrading the institute to the level of a regional engineering college.

Stating that the government wanted CUSAT to be developed to the level of IITs, he told reportershere the Centre’s proposal for upgrading CUSAT was not acceptable as the institute was itself a University now and if upgraded to IIEST it would be like downgrading it.

The Human Resources Ministry had proposed to bring CUSAT under the NIT Act and to upgrade it.
