93 cents of land missing from Cusat property, HC told

The state government on Wednesday submitted before the Kerala High Court that there is only a difference of 93 cents of land in possession of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat).

In a statement, E R Shobhana, Deputy Director of Survey and Land Records, Collectorate, Ernakulam, said that, according to the survey conducted following the government order, it was found that the recorded resurvey boundary measurement and the area do not differ from that in the possession of the university. “There is only a difference of 93 cents, which is less than one per cent of the total area.” The statement was filed in response to a petition filed by Girish Babu of Kalamassery  seeking a directive to identify the missing land of the university through proper and effective surveys.

However, the university authorities had submitted that about 51.5 cents in the south-east corner are missing from the property, and the Survey Department did not properly conduct the resurvey proceedings by fixing the boundaries.

The Survey Department submitted that there is no missing of land having an area of five acres at Thrikkakara as alleged by the petitioner. It said that the Cusat authorities have not produced any survey sketch with measurements for the said 183 acres of land of the university. “Only a litho map showing a rough alignment of the acquired land was produced by the authorities. There is a discrepancy in the list of property and litho map produced by Cusat. It is not possible to conduct a survey on the basis of this litho map alone as a sketch is necessary to measure the property,” the state said. It also said that the illegal construction of roads do not have any connection with the Survey Department.
