Students from CUSAT wins debate competition in NUALS

Ramakrishnan M N, Sukany Shaji and Harris Moosa from the School of Legal studies, Cusat, won the inter-collegiate debate competition conducted by the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) on Sunday.

The three became the first team in the state to win the NUALS debate competition.

Union Minister Vayalar Ravi inaugurated the valedictory session of ‘Altus Disputatio 2014’, the annual inter-college debate competition organised by the NUALS debate forum on Sunday.

Stebin Varghese from NIT Calicut was selected as the best inquisitor and Nikhil Menon of SCMS College, Aluva, was selected as the best speaker.
Speaking at the function, Vayalar Ravi recalled his days in Law College and hailed the legal profession as an independent part of the government.
While stressing the importance of an independent judiciary, he said it plays an key role in keeping a check on the functioning of the government and to adjudicate on constitutional matters.
The debate was conducted in the ‘devils cross’ format which was developed in NUALS.

The Union Minister gave away the prizes in a function presided over by Dr M C Valson, professor, NUALS. Alok Padman, president NUALS Students Council welcomed the gathering.
