CUSAT Plans Digital Evaluation

Aimed at ensuring efficiency, accuracy and timely publication of results, Cochin University of Science and Technology is planning to introduce Internet-supported digital evaluation of answer sheets of examinations conducted by the university. As pilot to this, as many as 1,000 answer sheets of the MCA exam scheduled to be held in June, will be evaluated digitally.

“The proposal to install the software for digital evaluation is awaiting the clearance of the Syndicate. The project is supported by an IT company which has a proven track record. Once implemented, it will bring in considerable changes in evaluation, tabulation and publishing of results,” Cusat Vice-Chancellor J Letha said.

Under the system, answer sheets will be scanned and uploaded on Internet. The evaluator will be provided a user accounting to access answer sheets. Upon login, the evaluator will get the set of sheets allotted. There will also be a facility to enter marks into the system itself.

“The system offers freedom and convenience to evaluator for tabulation of marks. The evaluator can access the answer sheets at evaluation camps, office or at home. Once the evaluation is over, the tabulated mark sheet will be available in just a click. At present, evaluators have to spend a lot of time on completing tabulation manually. The system will also provide subject-wise or college- wise mark list,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

The answer sheets in PDF format will be stored in the varsity and it can be  retrieved and shared anytime as per the requests made by the students officially, in case of loss of original answer sheets. I will also make easy the process of sharing answer sheets among multiple evaluators.
