The move comes amidst reports of ‘out of turn’ transfers of engineering students, especially those in affiliated self-financing colleges to SOE. Transfer of students from the varsity’s Cochin University College of Engineering, Kuttanad (Cucek) to SOE will also be verified as part of the inquiry.

Confirming the development, Vice Chancellor J. Letha told that the Director of International Relations and Academic Admissions (IRAA) has been asked to give a detailed report after examining the transfer of students.

“Transfer of students will be permitted only in the third semester from now onwards. The probe will find out how students in higher semesters were allowed to shift the colleges in violation of the rules,” she said. The probe was ordered amid allegations that certain students in affiliated self-financing colleges received ‘out of turn’ admissions at the School of Engineering and Cucek. Preliminary investigations also revealed a pattern, where students of certain private engineering colleges were getting transfers to the two institutions run by the university. Many students were also transferred from Cucek to SOE in violation of the rules.

The varsity recently received a complaint from a student at Cucek alleging that students, who had figured lower in the merit list (engineering entrance) got transferred to SOE.

The probe by the head of IRAA will examine whether the candidates who got out of turn transfers had received help from within the university. The procedural lapses, if any, by the heads of institutions and sections will also be investigated.

No transfers will be allowed from the new academic year without the ratification of the IRAA wing.
