Now, CUSAT eyeing students in the U.K.

Soon, the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) will start working on an ambitious plan to attract students in the U.K.

Exchange and twinning initiatives will be part of the proposal that would be implemented utilising the expertise of the State government’s International Relations Group (IRG).

“Commonwealth Association for Infrastructure Development has agreed to partner with Cusat in enhancing the ongoing efforts to forge academic tie-ups with leading universities in the U.K.,” J. Letha, Vice Chancellor, told The Hindu on Thursday.

“Dr. Geoffrey Clements, chairman of the organisation, held preliminary talks with us on the way forward for the varsity’s proposed association with the higher educational institutions. He has agreed to come back with a detailed proposal,” she added.

Short-term academic programmes will be worked out in the initial phase. Cusat will try to highlight its core strengths in research and studies while drafting the course curriculum.

The Commonwealth Association for Infrastructure Development will try to increase the varsity’s visibility in the U.K. in the initial phase.

Dr. Letha said that student and teacher exchange programmes and joint ventures in diverse fields of research will be carried out in the second phase.

“We could work out mutually beneficial programmes involving the faculty members and students here and in the U.K.,” she said.
