Road Safety Sessions held at SOE

Beware Kochikar! Because students of CUSAT are gonna snap you if you violate road safety rules. Yes! What you just read is an attempt by the R&D team for Road Safety, Kerala Motor Vehicle Department in collaboration with the Cochin University of Science and Technology to nab violators of road safety rules by deploying student photographers around the city.

A very thought provoking session on ‘Road Safety’ was held here at School of Engineering, CUSAT by the officials of Kerala Motor Vehicle Department. Joint RTO Adarsh Kumar G Nair, very efficiently explained the penalty one would pay for being careless on roads, citing real life stories to the students.

The idea if this project is to involve the students as a ‘Third Eye’ in this endeavour to achieve a ‘safer-roads’ scenario in Kochi. The students will be divided into groups and set at various points in the city to take phtograpeof the perpetuators with the number plates of the vehicle, which will help the traffic police to nab the violators with ease.

Later Motor Vehicle Inspector Shefeek, instructed the Students about the rules and regulations that will be followed by them while undertaking this task. He also put forward a list of violations which the students have to particularly look up for while photographing the roads. Mr. Shefeek is a well known wildlife photographer and has a state level award in photography to his credit. He is also the 41st person to trek to the North Pole and research there for 12 days.
The top three photographs will bag cash awards of 15k, 10k and 5k respectively, with ten consolation prizes of 1k each.

In the end the message always remains the same “Educate people about road safety so that we could save at least a single life” .
