CUSAT Btech Programmes get NBA Accredition

Five BTech programmes offered by the School of Engineering (SOE), Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) have been accredited for two years by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under Tier-I system. BTech in Civil, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics & Communication and Information Technology are the courses accredited by NBA for two years with effect from July 1, 2015.

The result of the evaluation made by the NBA Expert Committee during September 18-20, as part of conferring accreditation was received at the University earlier this week. It is first time an engineering institution in Kerala is getting accredited by NBA under Tier – I. Tier-I courses are housed in institutions with autonomy to review the content of curriculum and make changes as a result of recommendations from accreditation visits. The courses offered by IISc, IITs, NITs, Constituent Departments/Colleges of Central, State and Deemed-to-be Universities and Autonomous Institutions are eligible for accreditation under Tier-I system while colleges affiliated to a university are accredited under Tier-II system.
SOE is also awaiting results of evaluation of the other two BTech courses – Mechanical and Safety & Fire Engineering. The expert team visited the School in December for evaluation of these two courses.

”As on today, these courses offered by School of Engineering, Cusat alone have become eligible from the State of Kerala for “substantial equivalency” in 15 foreign countries including the US and the UK. Thus the School of Engineering, Cusat has acquired a unique position among the institutions offering engineering programmes in the state of Kerala,” varsity authorities said.
