CUSAT to go world class, to focus on augmenting research

The government has proposed a plan to elevate the varsity into a premier institution of national importance. Meanwhile, a long-term plan is being worked out to support CUSAT’s academic and infrastructure initiatives. However, the golden offer comes with a condition.

“CUSAT will have to prepare a master plan on how it will use the proposed international laboratory project as a launch pad for raising its academic standards,” Finance Minister T.M.

Thomas Isaac told The Hindu while referring to the Rs. 240-crore budgetary support for the ambitious infrastructure project proposed in the State Budget. Maintaining that funding will have to be accompanied by academic excellence, Mr. Isaac said the varsity would have to prepare a master plan outlining various research and academic activities proposed for the years to come. “It is not funding for an infrastructure project alone.
