CUSAT to go world class, to focus on augmenting research

The government has proposed a plan to elevate the varsity into a premier institution of national importance. Meanwhile, a long-term plan is being worked out to support CUSAT’s academic and infrastructure initiatives. However, the golden offer comes with a condition.

“CUSAT will have to prepare a master plan on how it will use the proposed international laboratory project as a launch pad for raising its academic standards,” Finance Minister T.M.

Thomas Isaac told The Hindu while referring to the Rs. 240-crore budgetary support for the ambitious infrastructure project proposed in the State Budget. Maintaining that funding will have to be accompanied by academic excellence, Mr. Isaac said the varsity would have to prepare a master plan outlining various research and academic activities proposed for the years to come. “It is not funding for an infrastructure project alone.

A mini ‘Amazing Race’ created by the law minds of CUSAT !

Yukthi’17 had a unique tag to promote its name, ‘Kerala’s First Law and Management Fest’, but the whole fest turned out to be picture perfect, courtesy to its well-crafted and executed events. One such event that the students of School of Legal Studies, CUSAT came with was a mind-boggling treasure hunt, which has every right to be called as a mini ‘Amazing Race’

    Treasure hunt map

First of its kind in CUSAT, a treasure hunt spearheaded by kashyap SK and Muhammed Suhail, 3rd year students of SLS was not just constrained over the boundaries of the university, but spanned over various spots in Ernakulam. On the pursuit, teams had to decipher and decode all those ‘twisted’ clues to find the spots.

A treasure hunt idea with such complexity made into reality with the manpower of approximately 28 volunteers. The whole game was controlled with a Help Desk which tracked the teams and assisted the Spot Volunteers who carried the clues and managed the game in their spots. Other than this, a set of team volunteers who were patient enough to accompany the teams and handled the expenses using the specific amount allotted to each team to roll for the clues.

Interestingly from the final six teams who got selected from prelims, the game was won by CUSATians only. A team comprising of four, Navneeth P, Manoj M, Dintomon Joy, Nithin Thomas students of Department of Physics, CUSAT. The final destination was the campus of the law aspirants, the task for the winners were to plant a sapling. The event had only first prize worth 10K.
